Questions?

These are some of the most frequent questions I get about working together.

If you don’t see your question listed, contact me.

  • Real Talk: The skills and insights you gain from therapy do not end at our last session, you carry them with you for the rest of your life when you commit yourself to the process.

When you book your appointment, you are giving yourself a powerful gift. You are claiming your dedication to transforming your life because you’re willing to invest in yourself.

It’s not easy work and I won’t tell you that it is, but what I can tell you is that incredible things happen when we value ourselves and our healing.

    My current rates are:

    Diagnostic Psychotherapy Intake (60 minutes) — $225

    Psychotherapy Follow-Up (50 minutes) — $200

    90-minute Individual EMDR Session — $320

  • The short answer:

No, I do not accept most insurance.

    I do accept CT Medicaid/Husky.

    The long answer:

Insurance companies place a megaton of stipulations around your care and how it’s provided to you; They can be pretty damn nosy. When it comes to mental health, confidentiality, support, and getting the help you need, I can’t get behind that.

Not taking insurance allows me both the time and energy to focus on you without a big system breathing down our necks about what diagnosis you have and how many sessions they think you need (or don’t need).

As an out-of-network provider I am able to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance to possibly receive reimbursement from your insurance company for a percentage of my session rate.

*It’s important to note, though, that providing a superbill requires me to provide you with a mental health diagnosis.

    Bonus food for thought:

Therapy has the ability to be more than just a weekly bill on your bank statement if you allow it. What would you discover if you truly committed to diving head-on into the discomfort of being fully seen? It can be scary, I know. I implore you to consider what might lay waiting for you on the other side of the time, money, and energy you spend on self-discovery and growth.

  • If you have a PPO or POS insurance plan, you can likely receive some reimbursement when you see me as an out-of-network provider.

To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage. You may also want to mention the type of license that I have to ensure services with my type of credential are covered; I am a Licensed Professional Counselor.

You may also want to ask:

    • What your deductible is

    • What your co-insurance payment will be

    • If you need authorization for your visits

    • Details on how to submit a superbill

    • How many visits you get per year

*Note: For confidentiality purposes, I do not directly work with your insurance company so any reimbursement/submission of superbills/communication about benefits is your responsibility and the full session payment is expected at the time of service.

You can also use this free online HIPAA compliant calculator to do a quick check before calling your insurance to confirm.

  • My clients engage with me both in-person and online.

Though, I strongly recommend in-person sessions as I have found that they eliminate most distractions, asking “can you hear me now?” every 3 minutes, wondering if I’m frozen or just listening intently, and offer a deeper interpersonal connection.

  • Take your time to read through my website. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you are reading, you can schedule yourself a free 15-minute consultation using my online scheduler. During your free consultation, you can ask me more about how I work as a therapist, or any other questions you may have that are specific to you.

You’ll also be able to share what’s going on for you and I can share my ideas about how I can help you. It can be helpful to think of the first few sessions as trying out the waters together. While I believe in my approach, it’s not a one-size-fits-all scenario. I am open to conversations about how I as a therapist can best serve you, even if that means assisting you in finding a better fit. During the sessions, you’ll be able to see how you feel working with me. What’s most important to me is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you. We can explore that together.

  • Ah, the age-old question.

You might be wondering about how long therapy will take because you are currently struggling and want relief fast. I get it, and if this is true for you, I want you to know that on average, my new clients start seeing small amounts of growth after the first 3-5 sessions. By that point, they feel a little more calm and hopeful that healing is possible.

The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of my clients find 8-16 weeks to be enough to increase self-awareness of patterns that are holding them back. While other clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy. We will work together to find the length of time that works for you.

  • If something feels overwhelming or even terrifying to discuss, that's actually very normal. It can often feel difficult to talk about what’s burdening us. During our sessions, it will always be up to you if you feel ready to talk about something or not. It’s my job to give you space to slowly start to work through the tough stuff. Gradually and at a pace that feels comfortable to you, you can share what you feel ready to share. You can also share with me that you are nervous to open up about something and we can talk about that too. Whatever is present for you. Whatever you are going through. Bring that to the session and we can explore that together.

  • Schedule a free consultation, of course! We will meet via Zoom for about 15 minutes, taking time to discuss what you've been struggling with and answer any questions you may have. You can schedule yourself in my online scheduler today using the button on this page.
